Experience Hendrix, and Reelin In The Years Productions showcase on DVD for the first time
ever, two immortal blues icons Memphis Slim and Sonny Boy Williamson, respectfully titled
Blues Legends. During a host of tours throughout Europe in the '60s, both Memphis and Sonny
Boy played to thousands of enduring fans including up and coming musicians Jimmy Page, Eric
Clapton, Keith Richards and Mick Jaggar to name only a small few. From those tours, very few
performances were caught and preserved for generations to come to witness the likes of these
legendary performers.
This DVD is a historical testament to the European blues tours and
featured on this DVD are ten unreleased performances of both bluesmen from the 1963 Dutch
television program Jazz Prisma, two unreleased Memphis Slim songs from the 1962 & 1963
American Folk Blues Festivals and a 1964 short film highlighting Sonny Boy Williamson with
three additional blues classics. As special bonus features, the producers have added two
fascinating segments: The first is Sonny Boy Williamson playing harmonica for Mae Mercer while
she sings the Bessie Smith classic "Careless Love." The second segment features rare footage
of pianist Otis Spann at the 1960 Newport Folk Festival performing three blues favorites "
Boogie Woogie Blues," "Slow, Sweet Blues" and W.C. Handy's "St. Louis Blues," all supported by
the world famous Muddy Waters Band.
