James "Al" HENDRIX Passed away peacefully in his home on April 17, 2002.

James Allen Ross Hendrix was born on June 10, 1919 to the late Zenora Hendrix and Bertram Philander Ross Hendrix in Vancouver, B.C. He was the youngest of four children; Leon, Patricia and Frank. Al attended Hastings Grade School, Dawson Middle School and Broadway High School.

In 1940, Al moved to Seattle where he has remained ever since. On March 31, 1942, Al married Lucille Jeter, and three days later he was drafted into the Army. He was Honorably Discharged on November 5, 1945, which would be the first time he would meet his new son Jimi who was born in 1942. In 1948, Lucille gave birth to Leon.

Following the death of Lucille, Al later met and married Ayako "June" Fujita, who passed in 1999, and together they raised their daughter, Janie. Al was a very hard worker and ran his own business as a landscape gardener. Al's favorite pastime was golfing and he belonged to the Fir State Golf Club, playing in many Celebrity Golf Tournaments. He was proud to display his many trophies for golf and bowling.

In 1995, Al regained the rights to Jimi's music and along with his daughter Janie started Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. As Chairman of the Board, Al was quite active in the decision making of the company.

Al was known for his deep affection for all those around him and he always had a special place in his heart for animals. Kindness, honor and loyalty were among his best characteristics. His is a spirit that will be truly missed, yet his deeds will live on. Revelation 14:13 - "And I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Write this: Blessed are they who die in the Lord henceforth." "Blessed indeed," says the Spirit, "for they shall rest from their labors and their deeds follow them!" Al leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Janie Hendrix, his son Leon Hendrix and wife Christine, his stepchildren Willie Jinka and wife Diana, Marsha Lake and husband Rick, Linda Jinka and Donna Jinka, twenty-three grandchildren, Austin, Quinntin, Claytin, Langstin, Leontyne, LeAnne, Alex, Jason, Jimi, Jonelle, Kimi, Rob, Jenni, Les, Mandi, Tammi, Kadada, Ebonee', Brian, Jodi, Nina, Steffi and Seth, eighteen great-grand-children, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. He also leaves a very special friend, Loreen Lockett.

Funeral services were arranged by Columbia Funeral Home and were held on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Hendrix was laid to rest alongside his pre-deceased wife, Ayako "June" and his legendary son, Jimi Hendrix at the Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton, WA. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to one of the following organizations: United Negro College Fund, American Heart Association or MusiCares in remembrance of James Allen Ross Hendrix.
