Wayne, Pa., October 10, 2007 - Clearview Cinemas today announced that it will feature two special concert films for exclusive, one-night only theatrical debuts at its Anthony Wayne Cinema in Wayne, Pa., near Philadelphia. The highly anticipated Warner Brothers Records' film Runnin' Down A Dream: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will premiere on October 15, at 7 p.m., and a special screening of The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live at Monterey will premiere on October 23, at 8:00 pm.
"What better way for movie fans and music fans alike to relive the legendary sounds of rock icons like Tom Petty and Jimi Hendrix than on the big screen with never-before-seen footage," said Beth Crimmins, vice president of marketing, Clearview Cinemas. "Runnin' Down A Dream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience are terrific examples of our commitment to provide unique entertainment choices for all audiences."
Runnin' Down A Dream
Directed by cinema legend Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show), Runnin' Down A Dream tells a great American story about a band that came from the middle of nowhere to win the hearts of millions. The film focuses not only on the Heartbreakers' inspiring ride to the top, but also the story of what they did when they got there, as artists, as a band, as people. Bogdanovich's film explores many of the underlying reasons for the band's unparalleled capacity not only to endure but to thrive. Runnin' Down A Dream tells the Heartbreakers' story as never before.
The film, two years in the making, weaves together remarkable archival material, previously unseen 8mm footage, new live and rehearsal footage. It also features in-depth interviews with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, and the circle of musicians, friends and collaborators who came into the band's orbit during their thirty-plus-year run. Interviews included are with Stevie Nicks, Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, George Harrison, Jackson Browne, Roger McGuinn, Dave Stewart, Jeff Lynne, Rick Rubin, Jimmy Lovine and Johnny Depp, among others.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live at Monterey
Forty years ago, Jimi Hendrix, in one fell swoop, changed the musical landscape for all time. It was the galvanizing, U.S. debut performance of The Jimi Hendrix Experience at The Monterey International Pop Festival that propelled Hendrix and his bandmates, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding, to the top ranks of international rock royalty. The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live at Monterey includes all existing film footage of that epochal performance presented in its original sequence. It's a remarkable visual and aural document that reconfirms what the Monterey audience bore witness to on June 18, 1967: Hendrix's unbridled talent and flair for showmanship are unparalleled in the annals of music.
The original 16mm camera reversal footage shot by D.A. Pennebaker's Monterey Pop film crew has been transferred to high-definition specs and is presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The soundtrack features new mixes by Eddie Kramer, the engineer closely associated with Jimi Hendrix and his legacy, from the original eight-track live recordings made at the concert by remote engineer Wally Heider.
